Have you ever used up a gift card until there’s about .65¢ remaining and don’t know what to do with the rest of it? Or maybe you’ve forgotten to give the hotel back the card you used to check into your room after your visit was over?

Did you know it is simply best to throw it away? That’s right! Gift cards and hotel card keys are made of PVC, which is labeled with the #3 in Recycling Codes, and are not recyclable in the vast majority of recycling centers.

However, it’s always important to check with the local guidelines to see whether or not they do accept #3 plastics.

So, do your own research about whether or not you can recycle #3 plastics where you live, and make the right choice of throwing away your old cards if they aren’t recyclable.
